The city has three excellent museums: the Railway Museum and the National Museum offer an insight into the fauna, culture and history of Kenya and the Snake Park has a wide variety of reptiles of enjoy.

DAPHNE SHELDRICK – ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE

Pick up / drop off from your Nairobi hotel or the city centre
Approximate Departure time: 10:00 – 10:30

Depart to Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage situated on the outskirts of Nairobi (approximately 45 minutes drive).The Sanctuary is run by Daphne Sheldrick and is set in the grounds of her house. Here, you will see the orphaned animals and meet the people who handle and care for these animals. It’s an interesting excursion and the team who run the orphanage are always willing to spend time answering any questions guests have to ask. Upon completion, return to hotel or city centre by approx 12.45 hrs (lunch is not included). It is suggested that due to demand, visits should be pre-booked and at times there may not be any animals in care. Visiting times are limited to approximately one hour and are between 11:00hrs and 12:00 hrs daily.

Follow in the footsteps of Karen Blixen as you travel towards the Ngong Hills, you feel swept immediately onto the film set of Out of Africa the moment you arrive. The old colonial farmhouse is simple, housing a few items that Karen Blixen chose and once enjoyed herself. There is also the colourful gardens to explore, where several old coffee machines have laid untouched for decades. From here visit the Giraffe Centre, where the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe lives in peace. With an elevated viewing-cum-feeding platform, this tour is wonderful for children.

HALF DAY NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK

Just 10km from the city centre and only 117 sq km in size, this is Kenya’s oldest park. Established around 1946, it’s a real contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. With over 500 varieties of birds recorded and more than 100 mammal species, it makes a great early morning or afternoon’s game drive. Common sightings include zebra, giraffe, buffalo, ostrich, gazelle, eland, hippo, vulture and lion. It is also a great place to see black rhino.

LUNCH OR DINNER AT THE FAMOUS CARNIVORE

The Carnivore Restaurant is one of Africa’s greatest eating experiences, made famous for its succulent steaks, barbecue dishes, game meat and great African hospitality. A visit here is an excellent complement to a holiday and makes a perfect spot for welcome or farewell meals. Delicious barbequed and skewered vegetarian meals are also available.
