11 Days Primate Trip to Uganda

Safari/tour includes: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, either chimpanzee Habituation or Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park, Ngamba Island Sanctuary, Golden Monkey Trekking, village walks, forest walks and other activities that are mentioned in the itinerary. Day 1: Welcome to Uganda a country ‘gifted by nature’

Our experienced exciting guide will give you a warm welcome to Uganda at Entebbe airport. Straight from Airport you will feel our friendliness. Feel the wonderful fresh weather and see part of the second largest Lake in the World Lake Victoria. While at the Hotel of your choice Overnight at Protea Hotel Entebbe/Papyrus Guest House. BB

Day 2: EITHER Caregiver-For-a-Day At Ngamba Island
After breakfast you will head to Ngamba Island a home for orphaned chimps which was created in 1997. It provides a safe and secure environment for the Chimpanzees as return to the wild is not possible.
Have a unique activity which is the Caregiver-For-a-Day experience. This program offers you the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a chimpanzee caregiver by being a caregiver. As a chimp caregiver, you will get the exciting opportunity to not only view the chimps feeding, but to participate in preparing their food and feeding them. You can assist the staff with any activities happening at the sanctuary that day: medical checkups, research and monitoring, preparing the holding areas for the chimps, and other activities. The staff will work with you to show you just what is involved in taking care of these animals, how individual they are, and what makes them so special. Dinner and overnight at Ngamba Tented Camp

Day 2: OR Half day Visit to Ngamba Island
After breakfast you will head to Ngamba Island a home for 48 orphaned chimps which is surrounded by the peaceful waters of Lake Victoria was created in 1997. It provides a safe and secure environment for the Chimpanzees as return to the wild is not possible.
Upon arrival at the sanctuary, you will be given an introduction to the project, its history and you will receive an educational orientation by a chimpanzee caregiver and view a feeding of the chimpanzees for the half day visit either in the morning or afternoon. Day 3: Back to Entebbe
After breakfast you will transfer back to Entebbe you will visit Uganda Wildlife Education Centre for an Overnight at Protea Hotel Entebbe/Papyrus Guest House. BB

Day 4: Journey to Kibale National Park (4 HOURS DRIVE)
The journey to the Chimps will give an opportunity to pass through Fort Portal which rests in the shadow of the fabled “Mountains of the Moon” and is famous for the many tea plantations. From this lovely town we will continue to Kibale Forest National Park the home of the chimpanzees and also over 355 bird species for two nights is an exciting journey. Passing through different varied landscapes, plantations and traditional homestead with a stopover for a tasty Local meal will make an amazing safari.
Kibale Forest National Park is located in the South Western part of Uganda hosting over thirteen primate species including chimpanzees, red colobus, and L’Hoest monkeys and different bird species. Dinner and overnight at Kyaninga Lodge/Mountains of the Moon Hotel/Chimps’ Nest.

Day 5: Mix with the chimpanzees
EITHER today the forest opens its doors for a sensational chimp tracking. Kibale Forest is reputable of having the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzee, red-tailed monkey, black-and-white colobus monkey and many others. After a hearty lunch we transfer to the Bigodi Swamp for another, totally different nature walk. The Bigodi Swamp Walk is an initiative of the local community and is known for its rich diversity of birds and primates.
OR have a full day Chimpanzee Habituation Experience which works with a chimp community which is undergoing habituation. You can watch chimpanzees leaving their overnight nests between 6:00 – 6:30am before feeding, copulating, hunting, breastfeeding, resting, patrolling and displaying until it is time to build new nests around 7pm. Dinner and overnight at Kyaninga Lodge/Mountains of the Moon Hotel/Chimps’ Nest.

Day 6: Discover Mgahinga National Park
After breakfast, you will proceed to Mgahinga National Park/Kisoro the land that is described with the beautiful landscape. Dinner and overnight at Traveller’s Rest Camp/Kisoro Guest House.

Day 7: Enjoy the Golden Monkey Tracking
Trek through the bamboo forests in search of the rare golden monkey, endemic to this region. Pass spectacular vegetation and scenery on your way. Dinner and overnight at Traveller’s Rest Camp/Kisoro Guest House.

Day 8: Enjoy the Golden Monkey Tracking
This morning you will have to wake up very early to get ready for Gorilla tracking one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. There are now only 650 left in the world! Expect to adventurously track through the Impenetrable Forest before you encounter any gorillas which is definitely worthwhile as you observe them closely while they eat, play with the young ones, rest and act like Humans. A unique and inspiring experience which one can’t miss! The Gorilla is a shy and peaceful animal and it is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact. There are always Park Guides with you who interpret the flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the Gorillas. Dinner and Overnight Chameleon Lodge/Nkuringo Gorilla Camp/Nkuringo Camp Site.

Day 9: Journey to home of the Zebras
Through the harvested and beautiful landscape via the banana, green vegetation, tea plantation and different homestead to Lake Mburo National Park. This journey will take you to the home of the Zebras and other game. Due to the game in Lake Mburo National Park, in the morning and evening game viewing is at its best in this park. Walking through nature and the boat cruise on Lake Mburo is worthy trying out. Dinner and Overnight at Rwoboko rock/ Lake Mburo Safari Lodge/Rwonyo Bandas.

Day 10: Back to Entebbe
After breakfast, Leisurely drive back to Entebbe with a stopover for lunch en-route. Stop at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers en-route where you will be able to watch the ceremonial drums being crafted using methods passed down through the generations. There will also be time to stop at the Equator for photographs. You will arrive in Entebbe in the early evening. Overnight at Protea Hotel Entebbe/Papyrus Guest House. BB

Day 11: Departure
Drive to the Airport ready to catch your flight
